Trappe paving contractor

Two different towns in one place

Trappe was incorporated in 1827 and sits about fifty two feet above sea level on the ridge between the Choptank River and the Bay. US 50 runs right past it as Ocean Gateway, and MD 565 through the village is the old alignment of that same highway. For most of two centuries it was a quiet farming village of barely a thousand people.

Then came Lakeside at Trappe, also called Trappe East, a nine hundred acre development approved for as many as 2,501 homes and apartments along with a thirty acre lake and a shopping center. That means brand new streets and builder driveways on one side of town and two hundred year old lots on the other. The same paving crew works both.

What paving in Trappe actually involves

On the new side, the issue is settlement. Ground that has just been graded, trenched for utilities and driven over by construction traffic is not finished moving. A driveway laid on fill that has not been properly compacted will show you exactly where the trench ran within a couple of winters. We compact, we check, and where a builder has left soft spots we fix them before we pave. Newer communities also come with HOA rules about finishes and widths, so we confirm those before we quote.

On the old side, the village lots along MD 565 have drives that were laid decades ago on whatever base was handy. Underneath is flat coastal plain soil that ranges from well drained sandy loam to the poorly drained kind that holds water most of the winter. Both exist within a few hundred yards here, which is why we dig before we quote. A lot of those older surfaces are candidates for driveway resurfacing rather than a full rebuild.

What we handle here

What we build in Trappe

Driveway Paving

New build or old village lot, we build the same way: strip it, base it, compact it, then pave with a crown that sheds water. On new construction we pay extra attention to utility trenches, because that is where a driveway cracks first. Our driveway paving in Trappe covers both ends of town.

Parking Lot Paving

US 50 frontage brings business, and a commercial lot on a highway takes constant in and out traffic at the entrance. That apron is the first thing to fail if the base is light. We build the entry heavier than the parking bays on purpose. Our parking lot paving in Trappe is sized to the traffic you actually get.

Sealcoating

A new driveway in a new community looks great for a couple of years and then starts to grey out as the sun works on it. A seal coat every few years keeps the surface sealed against water and keeps it looking like the day it was laid. Our sealcoating in Trappe is quick, tidy work on a residential street.

Asphalt Crack Sealing

Cracks in the older village drives let water straight into the base, and around here the base is often sitting on ground that already holds water. Sealing them while they are narrow is the cheapest maintenance there is. Our crack sealing in Trappe is worth doing before winter, not after.

Why Trappe calls us

Why Trappe owners call Robert and Son

Because we were paving in Talbot County long before the new neighbourhoods arrived. Robert and Son Paving is in its third generation, run out of Federalsburg, about sixteen miles east. Bob was born and raised on the Eastern Shore and knows this ground.

We are licensed in Maryland under MHIC #74385, BBB A plus accredited since 2018, and every job carries a two year warranty. Estimates are free, and we work homes and businesses both, Monday through Saturday. If a surface is breaking up at the edges or sinking in one spot, our asphalt repair crew will deal with the cause, not just the hole.

Where you will see us around Trappe

US 50 is the road everybody knows, running from the Malkus Bridge over the Choptank at Cambridge up through Trappe and on to Easton. We work the businesses along it and the streets that come off it, including MD 565 through the old village and the lanes that run out toward the river.

On the east side, the Lakeside development keeps adding streets, driveways and parking areas, and new pavement needs care in its first few years just as much as old pavement does. Out in the surrounding farmland, lanes run back off the highway to houses and outbuildings, and many of those are better suited to tar and chip paving than to a thin asphalt mat.

Where we work

Driveways and lots we lay in Trappe

We cover Trappe and the surrounding Talbot County countryside, and we are usually working Easton just up US 50 and Cambridge across the river on the same trip.

Straight answers about asphalt paving on the Eastern Shore

Do you work in the new Lakeside at Trappe neighbourhoods?

Yes. New construction driveways need careful compaction, especially over utility trenches, because fresh ground keeps settling. We check for soft spots before we pave and we follow any community rules on finishes.

How far is Trappe from your yard?

About sixteen miles west of Federalsburg. We usually come across MD 331 and the Dover Bridge or up US 50, and we are in Talbot County most weeks anyway.

My driveway cracked right where the utility trench runs. Why?

Because that ground was dug, refilled and never compacted to the same density as the soil around it. It settles, the asphalt has nothing to sit on and it cracks. The fix is to rebuild that strip properly, not just fill the crack.

How soon should a new Trappe driveway be sealed?

Not right away. Fresh asphalt needs time to cure before it gets sealed, usually into the following season. After that, every few years keeps water and sun off the binder. We will tell you when yours is ready.

Do you do commercial work along US 50 in Trappe?

Yes, residential and commercial both. Highway frontage lots take heavy entry traffic, so we build the apron heavier than the rest and set the drainage carefully.

Do you stand behind the work?

Every job carries a two year warranty. We are licensed under Maryland Home Improvement Commission number 74385 and have been BBB A plus accredited since 2018. The business has been running for three generations.
