The town was laid out in 1781 as Eden Town, named for the last royal governor, and incorporated in 1802. It grew on the Choptank River, where shipyards and steamboats moved grain and produce from the 1840s into the 1920s, and the old steamboat wharf is still there.
MD 313 links the two towns directly, so Denton is a fourteen mile run for us and our trucks are on it constantly.
