What clearing a lot involves

Plowing a lot is not one long push. The entrance and the exit come first, then the drive aisles, then the stalls, and the piles go where they will not cost you parking or block a sight line. Accessible stalls and their access aisles get cleared properly rather than plowed into, because a stall with a bank of snow across the aisle is no use to anyone. When does a lot get cleared?

That depends on your hours. A shop that opens at seven is a different job from a church that needs Sunday morning, and a place trading all week needs a plan for a storm that lands midweek. We would far rather work that out with you in November than over the phone at five in the morning. Forecasts move around, so we follow the National Weather Service updates for the Shore and call you when a storm is coming, not after it has gone through.

Where the snow gets stacked

Pile placement is the decision that quietly matters most on a lot. Snow put at the top of a slope melts down over the pavement all day and freezes across it at night. Snow stacked against a building runs back toward the foundation. A pile on a corner blocks the view for drivers pulling out, and a pile over an inlet backs water up across the lot at the first thaw. We look for a low corner away from doors, drains and sight lines, and we keep the stalls you need free. It is the same judgement we use when we are plowing a house out, with more riding on it.

What winter does to a parking lot

Freeze and thaw is hard on asphalt, and clearing snow shows you every weak spot in a lot. A blade finds the lifted edge, the loose patch and the crack that opened last winter. Water from a melting pile sits in the low areas and works its way down into the base. That is why we walk the lots we clear once spring comes and tell the owner what needs patching, sealing or striping before the next winter takes another bite. What kind of properties do you clear?

Business lots, church lots, apartment drives and small industrial aprons across the Eastern Shore. Many of them are properties we already pave, seal and stripe, so the surface and the drainage are familiar ground to us.

Do you clear the accessible stalls?

Yes. Accessible stalls and the access aisles beside them get cleared rather than plowed into, because a bank of snow across the aisle makes the stall unusable even when the paint shows.

Can you clear before we open?

Tell us your hours and we will plan around them where we can. We do not promise a set arrival time during a storm, and we would rather be straight with you than miss a window.

Do you clear entrances and door areas?

We can clear the apron and the ground in front of doors. Tell us exactly what you want covered when we quote, so the scope is agreed before the season instead of during a storm.

Will plowing wreck our striping?

A blade set correctly rides above the paint. Some wear is normal across a winter, especially at the entrance, and a re-stripe in the spring puts the lot back to looking sharp.

Do you handle the repairs in spring?

Yes. We patch what the winter opened up, seal the cracks that have widened, and re-stripe worn lines, usually on one spring visit so the lot is only disrupted once.
