How do you plow without damaging the pavement?

Blade height is the whole thing. We set the shoes so the edge rides just above the surface instead of dragging on it, which keeps it off manhole rims, joints and the lip where a driveway meets the road. New asphalt and fresh sealer get more care again, because a steel edge marks a young surface. On a gravel lane the blade rides higher still, so the stone stays on the lane instead of ending up in the grass. The same thinking goes into any lot we clear for a business over the winter.

Where does the snow go?

Downhill and downwind, and never in front of a door, a gate or a drain. Snow piled on the high side of a drive melts back across it during the day and freezes into a sheet at night, which is how a cleared driveway becomes the slipperiest part of the property. We keep piles back from the road end too, so you can see traffic when you pull out. On a long lane, stakes along the edges before the first storm save a lot of guesswork, especially where pavement meets grass with no curb to follow. It depends on the storm and how many properties are waiting. We do not promise a set time. We clear as fast as conditions and the queue allow, and we will tell you where you stand.

Can you plow a gravel lane?

Yes. The blade rides higher on gravel so the stone stays on the lane. Some scatter is unavoidable in deep snow, and we can grade the lane back out in the spring if it needs it.
